We will miss you, John Maysak!

 To John Maysak -
all that is good, decent, and compassionate in the human spirit
John M. Maysak, 80, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015, his wife Anne by his side, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born March 10, 1935 in McDonald, OH, he was the son of the late Charles and Anna (Neral) Maysak.
John attended The Catholic University in Washington, DC where he earned his degree in Clinical Psychology. He was a pioneer in the Head Start educational program in the early 1960's and worked as a school psychologist with Montgomery County Public Schools, where he enjoyed a long and distinguished career, retiring in 1997. With his professionalism and his gentle voice, he would ensure that each family received the services they needed.  That was his work, his passion and his mission.
John's attention to detail, humor, and passion for creativity was reflected in all that he did: playing the violin, telling a story, crafting a witty joke or pun, finding just the right card for the occasion, or taking the perfect photograph.
Following in the footsteps of his father, John was a consummate gardener: his yard and flower beds were meticulously tended, and he maintained a bountiful fruit and vegetable garden.
John was active in Civitan, the Angelman Syndrome Foundation, and as a volunteer at the Equestrian Center at Star Community.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, Anne (White) Maysak, he is survived by daughters, Kara Morgenstern (Lewis), Mary Jurgens (Jay), and Susan Maysak; sons, John E. Maysak (Diane) and Paul Maysak (Leslie), grandchildren, Kenly and Clare Morgenstern, Thomas and Michael Jurgens, Jack and Liam Maysak; sister-in-law, Mary White.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary (Maysak) Gonda, Barbara, Maggie, and Theresa Maysak.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 5, 2015, at 10am, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Avenue, Hagerstown, MD.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD, Sunday, October 4, 2015, from 5 to 7pm with remarks and reflections on his life by family and friends at 6pm.

Interment will be at the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Star Community www.starcommunityinc.org, or to Hospice of Washington County
